The Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, welcomed a delegation from the Inter-African Federation of Insurance Advisors (Fédération interafricaine des assureurs conseils – FIAC) on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Led by the federation’s Acting President, Vakaramoko Samaké, the delegation discussed the upcoming 16th annual general assembly, scheduled for June 10-13 in Ouagadougou.
The event, themed “The role of insurance brokers in expanding access and increasing insurance penetration”, aims to position brokers as pivotal players in financial inclusion across the region.
The assembly will bring together nearly 200 insurance brokers from the 14 member countries of the Inter-African Conference on Insurance Markets (Conférence interafricaine des marchés d’assurance – CIMA), as well as representatives from Guinea-Conakry and Ghana.
Speaking after the meeting, Vakaramoko Samaké emphasized the growing significance of the brokers’ role in economic development and job creation across member states. “We highlighted how our profession contributes to national progress. This assembly marks the beginning of a qualitative shift toward greater financial inclusion. The theme underscores a fresh commitment to supporting our populations through accessible insurance solutions.”
The Prime Minister praised the choice of Ouagadougou as the host city for the 16th edition, calling it “a gesture of regional solidarity” toward Burkina Faso. Addressing broader perceptions, he acknowledged challenges but stressed steady progress: “Despite unfair criticism and stereotypes, the country continues to advance across key sectors. Macroeconomic indicators reflect this resilience.”
He also underscored the alignment of the assembly’s theme with government priorities, noting the expanding scope of insurance needs—from climate-related risks in rural areas to broader sectoral coverage. “The insurance sector is now indispensable. Climate insurance, for instance, shows how risks are evolving. Our people deserve basic protection.”
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to fostering a robust insurance ecosystem, the Prime Minister concluded: “Rest assured of our full support in implementing your recommendations. I urge you to remain united and adaptable to today’s challenges.”
This meeting reaffirms the government’s determination to make insurance brokerage a cornerstone of Burkina Faso’s economic resilience and renewal.
