  • A significant exit post-triumph?

Silvestre anticipates potential squad changes at Arsenal should the Gunners clinch the Premier League title. The London club stands to be crowned champions for the first time since 2004 if they secure victories in their final two matches against already-relegated Burnley and Crystal Palace.

Manager Mikel Arteta could etch his name in history as the first Gunners coach since Arsène Wenger to lift the coveted trophy. This hinges on Manchester City, currently two points behind, still needing to overcome a formidable Bournemouth and then Europa League finalists Aston Villa.

Regardless of whether the London side achieves a Premier League and Champions League double – potentially facing Paris Saint-Germain in a final – the club’s management will undoubtedly look to bolster Arteta’s squad this summer.

  • Martinelli’s playing time diminished

Several fringe players might also be transferred, and former Arsenal defender Silvestre believes this could be “the right moment” for Gabriel Martinelli to depart the club. Martinelli holds the distinction of being Arsenal’s longest-serving player, having made nearly 300 appearances for the Gunners since his first-team debut in 2019.

Despite featuring in over 100 matches across the past two seasons, the Brazilian international has largely been utilized as a substitute this year, starting only ten times in the league. This inconsistent role could very well prompt the player, with 22 international caps, to explore a fresh challenge away from North London.

  • Silvestre’s assessment of the Brazilian talent

“Gabriel Martinelli might look to force a transfer due to his lack of playing time,” Silvestre stated. “As a Brazilian international, he desires to play, and Leandro Trossard currently has the edge over him in that regard. Therefore, he might explore other options, especially since he has been at the club for a considerable period. Departing after winning the championship would be ideal timing for him, but he must secure the right club, and Arsenal would then need to find a suitable replacement. Otherwise, I don’t foresee any other area requiring reinforcement.”

  • A potential successor emerges

Arsenal is reportedly showing keen interest in Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, as the London club aims to bolster its offensive options this summer. Silvestre suggests that the young Frenchman could be an ideal candidate to step in should Martinelli decide to leave the Emirates.

Silvestre elaborated: “If Martinelli were to depart, Bradley Barcola could certainly provide strong competition for Trossard. However, he still needs to refine certain aspects of his game. This is why he isn’t yet a regular starter in the Champions League, but he possesses numerous qualities already. If he sharpens his finishing, he will become a truly complete player, as in individual duels, creating space, providing assists, and delivering key passes, he is already highly impressive and challenging to contain.”
