Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye répond à Ousmane Sonko : « Assimiler Touba à un lieu de recel d’argent sale est un profond manque de respect »

The recent remarks made by Ousmane Sonko during his visit to Touba continue to provoke strong reactions across the political spectrum. Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye, the Minister of Land and Air Transport, has publicly condemned the Pastef leader’s assertions, specifically his claim that « stolen funds » were channeled into the revered holy city.

In a public statement, Minister Ndiaye emphasized that such allegations tarnish the reputation of Touba and its inhabitants. He declared, « Suggesting Touba serves as a haven for illicit funds demonstrates a profound disregard for the sacred city, its community, and the core tenets of Mouridism. »

« A profound ignorance of Touba’s spiritual legacy »

According to Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye, Ousmane Sonko’s statements reveal a significant unfamiliarity with Touba’s rich history and its spiritual purpose. The minister asserted, « It takes a deep lack of understanding of Touba and its profound spiritual heritage to accuse its residents of being complicit in handling stolen money. »

He underscored that the inhabitants of the religious center are celebrated for their unwavering commitment to the teachings of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, upholding values such as dignity, diligent work, and integrity, which form the bedrock of Mouridism. « The people of Touba are renowned for their dignity and their steadfast devotion to the precepts of Serigne Touba. To imply they could be swayed by financial inducements constitutes a serious misjudgment, » he stressed. The minister also interpreted the noticeable absence of key religious and local leaders during Ousmane Sonko’s visit as an indication of disapproval regarding his approach.

Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye took this opportunity to commend President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s dedication to Touba. He stated that the Head of State pays close attention to the needs of the holy city’s population. « The President fully comprehends the significance of Touba and its people. He is committed daily to delivering tangible solutions to their pressing concerns, » he affirmed. The minister further expressed his support for Prime Minister Mouhamadou Al Amine Lo, highlighting his efforts, under the President’s guidance, to expedite the resolution of various complex issues inherited from previous administrations.

Moving beyond the immediate controversy, Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye appealed to political stakeholders to focus on national priorities rather than divisive clashes. He argued that Sénégal urgently requires greater cohesion and unity to effectively tackle its economic and social challenges. Reaffirming his unwavering confidence in Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Ndiaye characterized the Head of State as « a man of integrity, profoundly committed to his nation, and wholly dedicated to the service of the country. » He concluded, « His singular focus is Sénégal. Despite facing criticisms and attempts to undermine his credibility, he remains steadfast in his mission: to fulfill the aspirations of the Senegalese people and guide the nation towards sustained progress and development. »
