Chad and France deepen defense collaboration at Eurosatory
High-level talks in Paris focus on joint aerial capabilities and regional stability as both nations strengthen their military partnership.
During the Eurosatory 2026 defense exhibition in Paris, Chad‘s Minister of National Defense, General Issakha Malloua Djamouss, engaged in talks with his French counterpart, Defense Minister Catherine Vautrin. The meeting follows ongoing political discussions between Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno and French President Emmanuel Macron.
The agenda centered on reinforcing bilateral defense ties and exploring new avenues for cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to upholding each other’s strategic interests and sovereignty, as outlined by Chad’s Ministry of Defense.
Key topics included the implementation of the recently signed letter of intent between the two nations. Discussions highlighted a shared vision for a robust partnership built on mutual trust and continuous dialogue to address pressing security challenges.
Chad underscored its dedication to an equitable and mutually advantageous collaboration, vital for regional stability and the enhancement of the Chadian Armed Forces’ operational capabilities. Defense experts noted that air force cooperation emerged as a focal point, with potential areas such as training programs, intelligence sharing, and French support to boost Chad’s aerial defense systems.
French military officials have expressed interest in regaining access to N’Djamena’s air base, a move that would enable rapid deployment of aircraft in response to regional threats. A senior Chadian officer confirmed that French presence could significantly bolster the country’s ability to counter emerging security threats.
Chadian authorities are actively seeking closer ties with France, reportedly dissatisfied with alternative security arrangements proposed by other partners.
