The event was attended by top military and government officials, including the Chief of Staff of the Bénin Armed Forces, General Fructueux Gbaguidi, and the Minister of State for National Defence, Gildas Agonkan. Both praised General Bada’s career, highlighting his unwavering commitment and professionalism throughout the decades.
Ceremony honours a career of excellence and resilience
Military honours, a flag salute, and a troop review were part of the farewell tribute to General Bada, reflecting the nation’s gratitude for his service. Earlier this year, on February 9, 2026, he was promoted to the rank of five-star general, a testament to his leadership and contributions.
Following his promotion, General Bada served as Advisor to the President on Defence and Security, a role previously held under President Romuald Wadagni. He also played a key role as the Military Cabinet Director during President Patrice Talon’s administration.
A life of service marked by both professional and personal challenges
General Bada, aged 63, leaves the military after an extensive career that included responding to the December 7, 2025, attempted coup. During that turbulent period, he faced the tragic loss of his wife, an event that underscored the sacrifices made in the line of duty.
His retirement ceremony was not only a recognition of his decades-long service but also a moment to reflect on the resilience and dedication that defined his journey within the Bénin Armed Forces.
