Algeria and Chad have formalized a landmark agreement in N’Djamena, Chad, aimed at accelerating infrastructure projects—particularly the trans-Saharan highway—while deepening bilateral cooperation. The pact, signed during a high-level coordination meeting, outlines streamlined procedures for public works and development initiatives between the two nations.
Key provisions and signatories
The accord was inked by Abdelkader Djellaoui, Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, and Amir Idriss Kourda, Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Road Unblocking, and Maintenance, following a working visit by Algeria’s delegation to Chad.
The meeting brought together senior officials, including the Director-General of Algeria’s International Cooperation Agency for Solidarity and Development, the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, and executives from Cosider Group and Algeria’s National Public Works Company (SNTP). Chad’s delegation included the Minister Delegate for Infrastructure and top government representatives.
Momentum builds on trans-Saharan route
Chad’s minister highlighted the rapid progress being made in implementing bilateral agreements, citing tangible advances since their signing in April. He pointed to joint technical assessments and the initiation of feasibility studies for the trans-Saharan highway’s route through Chad—an initiative poised to transform regional connectivity.
